Peep Show - Don't look it's Art

Let's fulfill the need to peep and sneak in to see Telma Har's new exhibition at Myrkraverk Gallery.

The exhibition Don't look it's art opens in Myrkraverk Gallery at Skólvörðustíg 3 on Wednesday, April 23 at 16.

The audience stands outside the gallery and looks in through a peephole in a window.

The exhibition consists of photographs that are cut out and put together to give a three-dimensional effect. The artist mixes various materials such as hair and embroidery, which then merges with the clippings. The goal is to give the viewer a visual experience in a dreamlike way and at the same time fulfill our need to peek and explore the unknown or simply satisfy our curiosity.

The exhibition will open on April 23 at Myrkraverk gallery at Skólavörðustíg 3 and will last until May 6.

Everyone is welcome to peep in and look into the world of dreams.

Events during the exhibition:

On April 25, Telma will have a talk about the exhibition and have refreshments

April 28, Sunday will be a paper toy making demonstration, where she will show three types of paper figures all made from photographs.

May 1st, Wednesday, there will be a demonstration on how to make a tunnelbook. Telma will show a simple version of such a book, but the book is built up with 3-4 pictures and pulled out to form a semi-accordion.

May 4, Saturday there will be a small exhibition in the gallery with various paper toys from photographs.

May 5, Sunday there will be a talk about the exhibition

My Book of Secrets

My Book of Secrets

My first solo exhibition at Litla gallerý in Hafnarfjörður, title of my exhibition is My book of Secrets.

The exhibition My Book of Secrets displays work of photographs where its author strives to display how the medium becomes a platform for self-exploration, self-reflection, research, and redefinition of the self.

For the last few years, I have been exploring photography as an art platform. I frequently use myself as a mannequin and create characters as a way to recreate thought processes. My works are my platform to interpret the notion I have of myself and the world I exist in. Each photograph is at the same time an extension of the past, the things that shape me and what I have learned, as well as glimpse into the future I go towards. The main artistic influence on my works derives from Cindy Sherman, Tim Walker, Anja Niemi, Yasumasa Morimura and Uldus Bakthiozina.

The title, My Book of Secrets, refers to books held by women in the 16th Century, that entailed different recipes and women-guides. By that, the exhibition hints towards “the secret” as a hidden part of the woman’s life, the thing that could not be discussed openly. The exhibition My Book of Secret: Part I shows the artist's first steps within the platform, with focus on character creation, shaped by inner and outer factors.
